Business computing is the study of computer technology in an economic context. It combines aspects of computing with subjects like accounting marketing, business strategy and information systems to allow individuals to utilize computer technology to meet the goals of their organizations.

Businesses require people who can develop robust reliable, user-friendly, and reliable systems that can be used to implement organisational solutions in the age of computers being increasingly used for information delivery and analysis of data. Our BSc (Hons) Business Computing degree will give you the skills and knowledge to succeed in this competitive field with guest lecturers from a variety of business organisations sharing their expertise with you.

You will also acquire the broad-based skills that employers seek in IT professionals that range from teamwork and leadership to project management and problem-solving. The degree will provide a base of knowledge in areas like programming and software development, web design, databases, and information systems, as well as enabling you to specialise in the areas of marketing, data analytics, or advanced computer science.

The course will provide you with an understanding of the Windows environment and the use of Windows application software including word processing using Word 2002 for Windows, spreadsheets and database management systems and presentation graphics software and the Internet. In addition it will educate you about computer security and e-commerce issues.

Typically, teaching will be through lectures and seminars, with many courses including laboratory-based computer exercises. You will also be expected to undertake independent study and research both at home and at the university.
